The Big Walk 2025

June 27th, 2025

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Big Walk 2025!

The Big Walk 2025 is a sponsored walk taking place on Friday 27 June 2025, fundraising for neurological disease research at the University of Sheffield.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Big Walk, ensuring that the day runs smoothly and giving the best possible experience for our participants. We really couldn’t deliver this event without our passionate group of staff volunteers and we are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you.

Routes and roles

There are two route options for walkers - a 20 mile and a 31 mile route. We need volunteers at various points along each route. The 20 mile route begins at Fairholmes Visitor Centre, and the 31 mile route begins on Mortimer Road. Both routes finish at The Edge, Endcliffe Village, S10 3ED. The 20 mile route can be viewed here, and the 31 mile route can be viewed here.

Available roles include registering walkers, marking the way, data entry, recording walkers along the route, and handing out medals.

You can choose to work more than one role - i.e. registration desk at the Octagon Centre, then the finish line at The Edge.  The software will prevent you from doing so if there is a timing clash.

Once you’ve registered, you will receive an email confirmation with the option to save the event in your Google calendar - we strongly recommend you do this. And please make sure to complete our Volunteer Google form once you have registered - this will be included with your confirmation email.

You may find it useful to read the Big Walk 2025 Terms & Conditions that contains more information about the event.

If you have any questions please email the Big Walk team at giving@sheffield.ac.uk or call Emily Dutoy, Fundraising Officer on 0114 222 5597.
